Position Summary:

The role of Transport & Logistics Senior Manager strengthens GS1’s global leadership in Transport & Logistics as practice leader. It manages critical internal and external relationships and may guide committees, experts and communities across the public and private sectors. The position requires confident engagement with senior stakeholders and the ability to influence global decision-making in a complex ecosystem.

This role will split time equally between T&L cross-sector engagement/priorities and ensuring alignment with the T&L Centre of Excellence (CoE), which is our operational delivery team. This will allow GS1 to better address T&L needs and ensure that our other sector-driven efforts are well-informed about the global T&L landscape. Time of this new resource will be split as follows:

50%

  • Coordinate/manage global representation of T&L with prioritised global stakeholders (WCO, ICC, UN/CEFACT, FIATA, DTLF, UPU)
  • Support the T&L CoE in the organisation/facilitation of workplans and events
  • Support the T&L CoE for updating our standards
  • Ensure liaison with the other functions at GS1
  • Coordinate international initiatives that lead to the standards, services and solutions required to satisfy Industry needs
  • Lead the work on developing a clear value proposition for e-commerce logistics, Maritime & Ports and Customs
  • Collecting and sharing best practices and projects from across the world.

50%

  • Partnership with cross-sector/cross-functional teams as an expert on the relevance and application of GS1 standards and data services to Last Mile, Trade Digitalisation and Customs & Border use cases.

The existing global T&L Centre of Excellence is an operational team who are focused on community engagement (including mobilisation) and sector expertise, as well as contribution to solution definition, development and delivery.

The role will have responsibility for the coordination and execution of work related to Transport & Logistics, in close partnership with the Centre of Excellence. 

Major Successes by 2030: 
The successful candidate will shape a unified global engagement model that elevates the relevance of GS1 standards, services and solutions across the Transport & Logistics landscape. They will build stronger communication and coordination mechanisms to increase transparency and highlight global progress.

This role is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the digital transformation and growth of a foundational global sector. It requires leadership across strategy, execution, stakeholder relationships and the development of solutions that bring tangible value to industry partners and Member Organisations.

The role will be responsible for strategic management of a prioritised workplan, with a set of goals to be achieved by 2030 that include: 

  • GLN as the main identifier used across the T&L industry + solution providers (platforms and IT systems), as well as the GLN Registry
  • Custom procedures using Verified by GS1 (including GTIN, GLN and other GS1 keys )
  • GS1 as an active partner and advisor to key organizations: (WCO, ICC, UN/CEFACT, FIATA, DTLF, UPU)
  • An implementation guide for T&L across key value chains, combining existing work with new needs and industry participation.
  • Wider use of Scan-4-Transport standards globally (including the creation of an Application Standard if appropriate)

The position collaborates with 120 Member Organisations worldwide to ensure GS1 remains a trusted, neutral and high‑impact partner in Transport & Logistics.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Global Office “go‑to” leader for all Transport & Logistics matters.
  • Maintain close alignment with the T&L CoE, ensuring shared learning and consistent implementation.
  • Develop, maintain and continuously refine a global T&L strategy in partnership with the CoE.
  • Track and report progress to governance groups and senior leadership.
  • Coordinate building and sustaining trusted relationships with priority global organisations.
  • Contribute to developing tools, methods and processes that improve transparency and reporting.
  • Apply strong analytical and strategic thinking to structure problems, design solutions and guide decisions.
  • Align objectives with senior leadership and execute against the long‑term vision.
  • Partner closely with GS1 Member Organisations and industry groups to enable adoption and solution delivery.
  • Manage project economics: planning, budgeting, risk, and stakeholder alignment.
  • Share expertise by developing case studies, white papers, learning assets and sector resources.
  • Maintain awareness of best practices, emerging industry trends and business levers.
  • Understand the interaction between T&L and adjacent sectors at both national and global levels.
     

Education/Experience:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate motivation to deliver high-quality work and a collaborative, community‑focused mindset. They will combine strategic insight, operational experience and the ability to influence global partners. Additional requirements include:

  • 10-15 years of experience with major industry organisations, including 10+ years in supply chain, logistics or relevant digital standards.
  • Strong background in the Solution Provider ecosystem with a deep understanding of solution design and implementation.
  • Experience in digital transformation, with excellent communication and diplomatic skills.
  • Familiarity with AI‑enabled tools and a desire to accelerate learning in this area.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Undergraduate degree required; business or analytical fields preferred.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex ideas to an executive audience.
  • Strong conceptual thinking, analytical problem‑solving and quantitative skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, leadership and collaborative capabilities.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
